Unlike Malabar, turnout was sparse. The tough hill? The mass saving of legs for the Hueston Woods race tomorrow with the prestige of USCF points? Can't be the weather 'cause it's beautiful out. Marco and Brian Batke showed up to spur on the ten or so 1-2-3s and there were maybe a dozen 4-5s and just four of us Masters. I therefore won't spew meaningless verbiage in the form of blow by blows. There were no blows. Tym was riding well, resplendant in his new New Hampshire Club Team kit in kelley green. Scott Young made it a threesome on laps 3 and 4 and riding among such a small group I could not help but notice the Tym repeatedly had to interrupt his pulls to reach down and pull up his socks. Evidently the demise of the textile mills in New England means that New Hampshire kit now comes with inadequate elastic. I rode much harder than I had anticipated as it was my plan to save some legs for Hueston Woods too. Scott Young keeps riding better and better and I fear he will soon be kicking my butt. Third time up the hill I felt good enough to big ring the last portion of the hill. The fourth time I could only muster the big ring on the short flat section between the first portion of the climb and the last but it was good enough for a first among four or is that three?; Mr. Young clarified to me afterwards that he was only a mirage in our group, as he is racing age 48 and therefore worthy of a first place in his own group of one, leaving only me, Tym, and Darryl Berry among the really old and irrelevant.
